Welcome to our nano piece of paradise!
This is essentially a creative photo blog plus few words. It is about Sandra and Denny's gardens and surrounds. My granddaughter Adelyn calls me "Poppop", hence the blog name. We try to add new images once a week. Older posts are archived at page bottom. Click an image to enlarge. We're having fun. Please! Enjoy!

Mellow Yellow

Warm summer sun days and the garden is very busy. Corn, squash, cukes, beans, chard, onions, tomatoes, herbs, peppers, and lots of sunflowers. It is good time. The average temperature is still summer, but we have now passed the peak, and are ticking down to more of that "fall feeling" in the coming weeks. The sunflowers have exploded, and are everywhere. Some came up naturally from seeds the birds had "planted" last year while they enjoyed their fall meals. Other areas were planted by us in spring. Enjoy the yellow!
Love the look of DILL...

The WALL

Earlier this year I decided to build a wall from cobbles, rocks, and stone we have gathered here. Most are local ancient glacial droppings and field stone, but I also used small stones that were collected on vacations over the years. Yes, we do pick up interesting stones and bring them home. Don't you? Many of these had been sitting around "doing nothing" for years. That's what rocks do!

I really love the timeless beauty of stone. I marvel at the skills required to make the nearly perfectly fitted dry stone walls like the ones you see everywhere in New England. I wish I had those skills. I wish I had all that stone! So, one goal of this project was to learn by doing. I had made some smaller cobblestone things, but never made a stone wall. I decided to make it easier and more fun by letting the wall change height, and also change width, and not even be straight. So, it's a whimsical "art" wall. Part of it has mortar, and part is stacked dry stone. It took a couple of weeks to finish it. I learned. I enjoyed. I'm pleased.
It's about 14' long
6 inches to 3 feet wide

3 feet high at the house (dry stone here)
1 inch high (walk through)
